Wooden vs Carpet Cat Tree: Which One Should You Stock?

This is really a question about your customer, not about materials. Wood photographs better and cleans better; carpet hides wear and feels warmer. The right answer depends on price point and market.

What actually drives the choice

Wooden trees sell to customers who treat the purchase as furniture and are willing to pay for it. Carpet trees sell to customers buying a pet product at a pet-product price. Both are valid; mixing them in one range usually blurs the positioning.

One hybrid works well and is worth considering: board construction with carpet on the platforms and sisal on the posts. It gets the cleanable look with the scratch resistance where it is needed.

Durability, honestly

Neither material is inherently more durable. Wood fails by showing scratches; carpet fails by compacting and shredding. The variable that predicts lifespan is the same in both cases — how well the wear points (post tops, platform edges, entry holes) are reinforced.

Freight and damage in transit

Wooden models are heavier and denser, which is usually better for container utilisation but worse for parcel shipping. Carpet models are bulkier and more prone to corner crush damage. Check both carton density and corner protection before committing to a container plan.

FAQ

Are wooden cat trees better than carpet ones?

They are better for cleaning and for looking like furniture. Carpet is better at hiding light wear and at a lower price point. Neither is better at surviving a determined cat.

Which is easier to clean?

Wooden and board surfaces wipe clean and do not trap hair. Carpet holds hair in the pile and needs regular vacuuming.

Do cats prefer carpet or wood?

Cats care about grip and scratching surfaces far more than the material of the platform. A wooden tree with good sisal posts gets used as much as a carpet one.
